Katrin Via Ferrata

The new via ferrata high above Bad Ischl offers a breath-taking view of no less than five lakes and of course of Dachstein Mountain.
Nice via ferrata up Katrin Mountain, high above the spa town of Bad Ischl. The 300m-long route leads along an edge and is quite exposed, yet it gets never really difficult – directly at the big summit cross you leave the face. En route you can enjoy views of five lakes – Lake Traunsee, Lake Wolfgang, Lake Nussensee, Lake Schwarzensee, and if the view is good also Lake Fuschlsee and on your descent Lake Hallstätter See. You can also enjoy a fantastic view of Dachstein Mountain.

Thanks to the cable car, this is a nice route for an afternoon that can be conquered in two hours starting from the top terminal. Facts: Difficulty: B (one passage B/C), 320m steel rope, 230m of altitude gain, time needed to get there from the top terminal: 35 minutes. The route ends directly at the Kaiser-Franz-Joseph cross at the summit of Katrin Mountain. Equipment (via ferrata sets, harnesses and combined harnesses, helmets etc.) can be rented at our partner’s Giga Sport in Bad Ischl.

Safety on the rock face

In recent years rock climbing has developed encouragingly strong and each year inspires more and more people. Its versatility means you get a taste of everything: whether hard tracks in the Boulder room or indoor climbing hall, long routes with alpine ambience or leisurely tours on a sunny cliff - in climbing, regardless of age, everyone finds their individual conditions. Safety guidelines play an important role in enabling you to enjoy this fascination to the full. The best advice for "correct" climbing in the Salzkammergut region can be found here.
