The impact of the Reformation
on Bad Goisern and the Salzkammergut
This year, the Evangelical Church commemorates the 500th anniversary of Martin Luther's thesis (1483-1546) at the All Saints' Church in Wittenberg. The Landler and Heimatmuseum in Bad Goisern is dedicating this year to the impact of the Reformation on the population 500 years ago.
For shortly after the beginning of the Reformation the Evangelical faith entered the Salzkammergut. From 1600, however, all of them had to become catholic again or emigrate. Six generations grew up as "secret protestants" until they were tolerated in 1781. Since then, "mutual tolerance" has been and still is exemplary.
Whether as an insider's tip for rainy summer days or for history lovers museumgoers, the special exhibition from 1st July to 30th September 2017 at the Landler and Heimatmuseum (museum of local history) gives an insight into the lives of people more than 500 years ago. Come along on a small journey through time in the Salzkammergut.
Our excursion tip for the Salzkammergut: A visit to the Landler and Heimatmuseum can be easily combined with a walk through the spa park of Bad Goisern on Lake Hallstatt or an unforgettable bathing day in the Parkbad of Bad Goisern.
