Made in Austria

In the world of the Operetta, a kind of the German-language musical, numerous artists take us off onto a musical journey through Austria with their swinging melodies from the "good old time".

About the Operetta Concert

The beauty of waltz and the magic of melody have made Viennese operetta famous all over the world. In Vienna it is opera season all year round. All operettas dream the dream of happiness. But before this can become reality, it usually requires some cunning, comical entanglements and many capers. And not infrequently do we come across pretentious rulers and dignitaries with hollow pomp who are the targets of mockery.

Compared to its French equivalent, the Viennese operetta softened the sharpness of critique and put dance - and in Vienna, the waltz and the "three to four time" - into the spotlight. Here dominate pure love of life and a forgiving indulgence in music. The masterpiece of the genre par excellence, "Die Fledermaus" by the younger Johann Strauss proves that the Viennese operetta is not lacking in wit and subtle ridicule. Together with Karl Millöcker, Richard Heuberger, Franz von Suppé and others, Johann Strauss junior founded the era of the Golden Operetta. With "The Count of Luxembourg", "The Merry Widow" or "The Land of Smiles" Franz Lehár became the founder of the second heyday of Viennese operetta at the beginning of the 20th century. The so-called Silver Operetta Era lasted into the 1930s and composers such as Emmerich Kálmán, Robert Stolz and Oscar Straus were the “pop stars” of the time.
