Pre-Christmas tradition in Hallstatt
True to the old tradition, the “Fronleichnamsschützen“ (Corpus Christi guards) light the Thomas fire, on the island at the Hallstatt beach, to mark the Winter Solstice. Along with punch and roasted chestnuts around the romantic Thomas fire, guests and locals celebrate together the first twelve night of Christmas the on the 20th December. The start with the loud gun salutes is not to be overheard! This decades-old custom takes place whatever the weather. In case of bad weather it will take in the hut at the beach!
The Thomas fire and Rauhnacht shooting will be accompanied by musicians from the UNESCO World Heritage region of Hallstatt Dachstein Salzkammergut. Start the enchanting Christmas season with traditional sounds.
