New Year celebration in the Koppenbrüller Cave

Mystical start to the year in Obertraun

Since 1980, the New Year's celebration in the Koppenbrüller Cave in Obertraun on Lake Hallstatt has become a fixed feature of the tourist offerings in the World Heritage region of Hallstatt Dachstein Salzkammergut. It takes place every year on the 2nd January from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. There you will be lead through wintry landscapes with torches from the Koppenrast car park to the cave entrance. On arrival, you will be welcomed at the cave entrance by the Obertraun brass band and Bengali flares. Interested parties now have the opportunity to participate in expert guided tours through the Koppenbrüller Cave in the Salzkammergut.

The musical part, which since the last few years has been performed by a group of local didgeridoo players in the "Crocodile Hall", will once again enrich the program this year. The Obertraun hosts also invite you grill potatoes on an open fire or strengthen yourselves with hot drinks, both of which will help lift the spirits in the possible arctic temperatures and shorten the occasional waiting times for your winter holiday in Obertraun on Lake Hallstatt.
