From July 22th to August 5th 2013, the 58th Ecumenical Church Music Retreat will take place in Gosau, Upper Austria under the auspices of the Association for Church Music of the Evangelical Church of the Palatinate in Germany.
More than 100 participants from various European countries are expected to attend. Under the direction of church music director Jochen Steuerwald (Speyer), visitors of the retreat will be rehearsing and performing the „Petite Messe solennelle“ of Gioachino Rossini (1792 – 1868) for solists, choir, piano and reed organ. Two special instruments will be used in these performances: a first-class concert grand piano, and a rare reed organ constructed by Victor Mustel in 1908.
Vera Steuerwald (soprano), Heike Keller (alto), Gernot Heinrich (tenor) and Thomas Herberich (bass) will appear as soloists. The choir of the Ecumenical Church Music Retreat will be accompanied by Robert Selinger (piano) und Andreas Hoffmann (reed organ).
The retreat program also includes organ courses to be held by cantor of Saarlouis / Germany Andreas Hoffmann, as well as instruction in choral directing under Jochen Steuerwald. In addition, child participants will rehearse a musical drama under the direction of Vera Steuerwald, an expert in youth music and vocal education. The work will be performed on August 4th during worship service in the Evangelische Kirche Gosau at 9:00. On July 28nd and August 4th, the choir will also sing in Evangelical worship services in Gosau under Andreas Hoffmann.
