Bashir Qonqar - Exhibition "Untitled"
Original title / German title: "Ohne Titel"
Paintings, drawings, installations
Bashir Qonqar was born in Bethlehem, Palestine, in 1980 and is a self-taught artist currently living in Bad Goisern, Austria. His educational path led him to Heidenheim in Germany. At the age of eight, Bashir lost his father, who was killed during the first intifada. This experience had a significant impact on his personality development as well as his way of thinking.
In his works, Bashir focuses in particular on social aspects and interactions in order to fathom and reflect on human behavior. In doing so, he also takes into account taboos and collective behavior in societies. His approach is characterized by a critical and sarcastic note. Bashir is currently working as a freelance artist and social pedagogue in Austria. He has already participated in several exhibitions and workshops at local and international level.
"I have to let everything out, all my feelings, all my memories of the place I come from.
Time has stood still in the last nine months, but not the machine of destruction.
Since October 7, everything has been redefined, the meaning of human rights, the importance of self-defense, the meaning of racism and, above all, the importance of humanity.
War is the ugliest image of humanity, we are reliving it, and with its meanings the same images reappear that people in Europe no longer wanted to see. In a few years, when everything is over, people will ask themselves how it could have happened and who is responsible for this massacre.
We are all responsible. All those who saw what happened and did nothing to prevent it. And we all have a responsibility to stop it before it takes the rest of our humanity with it.
This exhibition has no title, because the act itself left me speechless."
Bashir Qonqar, July 2024
The exhibition takes place in the premises of the Otelo Bad Goisern association on the ground floor of the Stephaneum, Stephaneum, Rudolf-von-Alt-Weg 5, 4822 Bad Goisern and is part of the exhibition series "ART//STEFFES". Admission is free!
