On Shrove Tuesday, a colourful, funny procession with many highlights, great costumes and numerous surprises, goes through the centre of Bad Goisern on Lake Hallstatt.

Around 14:00 hrs. the carnival fools, in the centre of the World Heritage town, show how colourful and happy the fifth season of the Salzkammergut can be. Many enthusiastic spectators from all over the world line the streets and turn the market town, in the heart of Austria, into a party mile. On this carnival day, different groups highlight current affairs and drive with imaginative vehicles, or march in great costumes with music and lots of momentum through Bad Goisern. A colourful spectacle, which you should not miss on your holiday in the Salzkammergut.

Carnival days are excessively and raucously celebrated in the Salzkammergut. Tradition and folk culture are also important during carnival time.
