A ride to hell and back!?

Once again, on the second weekend of July, more than 5.000 participants from more than 40 nations will turn Bad Goisern and the World Heritage Region Hallstatt into the hotspot of the mountain bike scene. Besides top athletic performances, visitors may expect great side events with numerous highlights!

A ride to hell and back!!!

For the 900 toughest among all mountain bikers the trophy kickoff is – as already commonly known – at 05:00 am!! This means for the bikers lining up at the Market Square in Bad Goisern facing grueling 210 km and sheer incredible 7.119 meters altitude difference – the toughest marathon in whole Europe.

The prestigious black Finisher Jersey of the
A-bikers has become a cult item!

The individual marathon distances of the Salzkammergut Trophy are considered as beautiful and very selective. The courses have been constantly adapted over the years. There are seven distances in total, besides the extreme distance with more than 210 km there are courses with more than 22, 37, 53, 74 and 119 km as well as the technically challenging “All-Mountain-Race” with 55 km.

Especially the long loop of the A-bikers with more than 210 km is one of the most impressive tracks in whole Europe reaching already cult status. No wonder that the highly-desired black Finisher Shirt becomes a dream come true for many bikers – for some of them after participating in two or three races. Therefore it is not surprising that more a more A-bikers line up in Bad Goisern every year at day break. Still some of them do not finish their race day until the late evening while the winners already celebrate.

Ex-Eagle “Goldi“ attacks
once more the extreme distance!

Many familiar faces in the middle of the international filed, e.g. ÖSV ski jump legend Andi Goldberger. The former „high-flyer” and Trophy regular since many years wants to be listed again in the finisher’s list of the extreme distance. For him and the last year’s winner Konny LOOSER (SUI),who signed up again for 2018, the kick off will be also at 05:00 am in the morning.

Andrea Limbacher and Benjamin Karl –
two Olympic-Athletes at the Start!

On July 14, among numerous bikers, Ski-cross World Champion Andrea LIMBACHER as well as Snowboarder Benjamin KARL two Olympic athletes of Pyeongchang will be at the starting line. While Benjamin Karl will tackle like last year the course over 120 km and 3.848 m altitude difference, Andrea Limbacher will attack the „Allmountain-Marathon“ with more than 55 Kilometer and 1.820 meters altitude change. The start will be in the Imperial City of Bad Ischl – the lat one of all marathon contests – at 01:00 pm. The courses have been selected in such a way that the two most difficult down-hills of the extreme distances have to mastered and therefore especially designed for all Fully-Bikers. “Since due to an injury unfortunately I was not able to take part in the previous year, I really look forward even more so this year to experience the Trophy atmosphere again as an athlete” a pleased Andrea who is really looking forward to July 14!!

With Cross-county-ski Olympic Winner Christian HOFFMANN another world top class athlete is participating. His MTB premiere was at the last years “Jubilee Trophy” in the Salzkammergut and being totally amazed about this whole event, he already signed up again for the C-Course.

Unicycle-Downhill – this year already on Friday!

A real spectacular kickoff of the Trophy Weekend!! This year already on Friday evening more than 100 unicycle downhiller will dash down 500 meters altitude difference from the Predigstuhl towards Bad Goisern. This sensational downhill contest has become a popular fixture within the unicycle scene and will be even more spectacular this year as the Austrian Unicycle Downhill Master will be awarded!

Junior-Trophy – Rookies get on your Bikes!

On this Trophy Sunday, the kids may choose between two contests – racing speed at the XC-Race and playfully in the Parcours- At the parcours-contest it’s less about speed; much more important are the skills as the young bikers master various obstacles without any time pressure demonstrating their technical skills in a playful way. . All children receive a race number; however there is no rating or rank list – in line of the Olympic ideal! Whereas the XC-Race is perfect competition for the sporty ambitious rookie bikers, the line ups are according to the age groups

Special Trophy Shirt and
Gingerbread Medal for all Juniors!!

No matter if parcour or at the XC-Race: all participants receive as a souvenir a Gingerbread medal and a Trophy T-shirt in the finish area. Also after the winner’s ceremony, many great prizes are going to be raffled. Main prizes are SCOTT mountain bike as well as a pair Fischer Ski.

On Sunday July 15, between 09:00 am 12:30 pm, the new Pump the Trophy challenge will be to make the laps as fast as possible. Thereby speed will be increased by pumping through the bumps without needing to pedal. Start will be in single modus as so called “flying start”. Slow-Motion-Rating – thus the last will be the first!

Something really special is the slow motion rating: not the fastest, not the biggest but the slowest team may win the big prize at the Trophy on July 14th. After the race the times of all team members will be added – the team which has been biking the longest time wins! Therefore those teams have an advantage with the most members biking the longest possible distances finishing just prior the time limit. For all winners there are non-cash prizes worth more than € 20.000,-!

Join in: the Gravel-Marathon powered by Dachstein-Salzkammergut!
After last year’s succeful premire, the Salzkammergut Trophy will organize again an special rating for Gravel-Bikers – although somewhat shorter this year

The extreme climb up to Hallstatt Salzberg will be cancelled for the Cyclo-Crosser and will be therefore held on the shortened by 11 km.C Course. Two thirds of the track will be on gravel and forest roads – therefore ideal for biking with cross bikes. The Gravlers start at 10:13 hrs at the festival square in Obertraun, two minutes before the bikers of the C course in their own starting block.

The course leads from Obertraun via the Echern Valley to the Rossalm towards Gosau continuing until the finish line in Bad Goisern, challenging 63 km and 2076 meters in altitude difference. There will be classification for women as well as for men. The times of the Gravel-Bikers are also rated for the slow-motion-rating

Innovative „Bosch eMTB-Challenge supported byTrek“ is making a guest performance at the Trophy!
On Saturday July 14, there will be again eMountainbike contest as part of the Salzkammergut-Trophy. The newly adapted race format will guarantee even more biking fun and uphill–flow in the terrain. Biking skills as well as orientation will be as important as physical fitness and smart battery management. Six short and technically challenging legs must be mastered with timing – however without any prior training. On the transfer routes in-between 10 checkpoints have to be passed – whereby each participant may choose individually the shortest or easiest route to get there.

For the first time it is also possible to participate in „Bosch eMTB-Challenge supported by Trek“ without any timing. Yet those participants must accomplish the whole 40 km long course as a tour – making a detour around the rating sections. Therefore, despite different performance levels, it is possible now for families, partners or groups to enjoy together the special race atmosphere. The race in Bad Goisern will be the final of a whole eMTB race series. The stations prior: the bike festivals in
Riva del Garda (ITA), Solothurn (SUI) and Willingen (GER).

Search – found: eMTB-Test and guided eMTB-Tours!

During the entire Trophy weekend more than 100 eMTBs, most of them with Bosch-eBike driving system are available. The eBikes may be tested on the sign-posted test tracks or with guided tours. We especially recommend the atmospheric sun-set tours, as well as the technical tours with the former MTB World Champion biker Greta Weithaler. Participants learn about the advantages of an e-mountain bike at challenging passages and the bike fun involved. Those who consider buying a new e-mountain bike should not miss these great testing opportunities
