Hallstatt all over the world

For millions of people all over the world, the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra's New Year's Concert is already a fixed ritual. On 1st January 2022, the world-famous concert experience will take place with Hallstatt participation. During the concert breaks, the ballet will take you to very special places in Austria. For the start of the new year, the historic salt mining town of Hallstatt, in the heart of the Salzkammergut, will also be presented at this point. The filming for this already took place in summer 2021 at one of the most spectacular places in Hallstatt - the Skywalk on the historic Salzberg.

The first classical event of the year!

Traditionally, ORF opens the New Year with a broadcast of the world's most famous classical music event from the Golden Hall of the Vienna Musikverein. The final preparations for the 82nd New Year's Concert of the Vienna Philharmonic are already in full swing. The top-class cultural event, conducted by Maestro Daniel Barenboim for the third time after 2009 and 2014, will be produced for television with 16 cameras in the best high-definition quality and in Dolby Digital 5.1. For the 64th ORF TV broadcast of the "Concert of Concerts", which is seen annually by millions of people in almost 100 countries on all five continents, the accomplished German concert and opera director Michael Beyer will direct the images for the sixth time. In her tried and tested manner, ORF cultural expert Barbara Rett will comment on the musical greetings of the Vienna Philharmonic to the whole world for the television audience.
