Anniversary concert in Bad Ischl: 200 years of Johann Strauss Son
On the occasion of the 200th birthday of Johann Strauss Jr., the undisputed "Waltz King" and most important representative of the golden operetta era, the Bad Ischl Tourist Office and the Upper Austrian Philharmonic Orchestra invite you to a festive anniversary concert in Bad Ischl - the city that breathes the spirit of the Viennese musical tradition like no other.
Since its founding in 2021, the orchestra, founded by Matthias Achleitner, has made a name for itself with sensitive interpretations and spirited New Year's concerts. Now it presents an exclusive anniversary concert that traces the musical life of Johann Strauss Jr. – with well-known masterpieces, but also with surprising rarities from the composer's oeuvre, which comprises around 480 works.
A programme full of timbres and emotions
The concert brings together all the musical genres that Strauss Sohn has shaped – from the rousing march to the soulful operetta overture, from the famous "Blue Danube" to the virtuoso artist's quadrille. Conductor Matthias Achleitner will personally lead through the evening and shed light on the most important stations in the composer's life.
Excerpts from the program:
- Fest-Marsch op. 452
- Overture to "Die Fledermaus"
- Pizzicato Polka (together with Josef Strauss)
- Roses from the South
- Entry march from "The Gypsy Baron"
- Emperor Waltz
- On the beautiful blue Danube
An evening in honour of the Waltz King
This musical homage is more than a concert – it is a sonorous journey through time into the heart of the Viennese musical tradition and at the same time a gift to all Strauss lovers and those interested in culture. The festive ambience of the Kongress & TheaterHaus Bad Ischl forms the ideal setting for this extraordinary anniversary.
