Jazz is becoming increasingly popular. And so it is not surprising that the number of jazz events is constantly increasing. This is also thanks to a very special formation from the Traun metropolis: the Jazzfreunde Bad Ischl.
The ambitious organizers are an association that promotes jazz in the Salzkammergut by organizing concerts with national and international musicians and supporting young, innovative artists. The aim is to bring jazz in all its diversity closer to an interested audience and to preserve a "jazz oasis" in the Salzkammergut. Jazz Spring in Bad Ischl
Double bassist Gregor Aufmesser first stepped into the spotlight in 2014 at the JazzWerkstatt Wien festival with his seven-member ensemble Aufmessers Schneide. On the band's debut album, Orbs, the composer and bandleader explored the world of physics through music – a fitting theme for an ensemble of distinct individualists. Like particles, the musicians act independently yet always in relation to one another. The compositions themselves reflect this contrast: they span the spectrum from classically oriented counterpoint to expansive jazz à la Charles Mingus, a constant interplay between intellect and emotion.
With quirky humor, Aufmesser observes the absurdities of life, especially life in a certain petty-minded Alpine republic. Aufmesser's Edge explores what can be encompassed by the term "jazz" without losing sight of the band's strengths: expressionism, the diverse musical personalities, and the soulful handling of intellectual material. In Aufmesser's Edge, as in quantum physics, countless possibilities exist simultaneously: one never knows what might next emerge from the fog of probabilities.
