Kaisertage Bad Ischl 2024
Celebrate like the emperor - from 9 to 18 August 2024
On the occasion of the 194th anniversary of the birth of Emperor Franz Joseph I, the Bad Ischl Tourism Association organises the Imperial Days. From 9 to 18 August 2024, locals and visitors can expect a colourful programme with numerous events
The highlights: Ladies' saddle riding in the Kaiserpark on Saturday, 10 August, the arrival of the "Kaiserzug" on Thursday, 15 August, the Kaiserbummel on Saturday, 17 August and the Emperor's Mass on Sunday, 18 August in the parish church of Bad Ischl followed by a parade to the Imperial Villa
When the steam locomotive arrives in Bad Ischl, the red carpet is rolled out and the city centre is ridden through the city centre in historical costumes on noble horses, one thing is certain: the celebrations in honour of the birthday of Emperor Franz Joseph I (18 August 1830) are in full swing. For the 21st time this year, the Bad Ischl Tourism Association invites you to the Imperial Days, which will take place from 9 to 18 August 2024 with a lot of charm, a little nostalgia and a healthy pinch of (self-)ironic entertainment. All visitors can expect a colorful cocktail of different events and hospitable festive mood.
Majestic program: Ladies' saddle riding and Kaiserbummel
The big kick-off to this year's series of events will be the operetta premiere "Der Sterngucker" as part of the Lehár Festival on Friday, August 9, 2024, at 08:00 at the Kongress & TheaterHaus Bad Ischl. In honor of Empress Elisabeth, a first-class rider of her time, the Ladies' Saddle Riding will take place in the Kaiserpark on August 10, 2024 at 14:00 hrs. Riders in historical clothing will bring this special type of riding closer to all those interested. Another highlight of the programme is the entry of the nostalgic imperial procession into Bad Ischl station on 15 August at around 11:00 hrs. with a ceremonial reception of the imperial couple and subsequent parade with an impressive 10-horse carriage team.
On August 17, 2024, both locals and visitors can feel like majesties on a stroll through the Kaiser: The 2.5-kilometer red carpet through Bad Ischl provides a special shopping experience and invites you to taste art and music in trendy shops and traditional businesses. For example, in a small pop-up store on the Esplanade, the Imperial Violet from the purveyor to the court J.B. Filz, Empress Elisabeth's favorite fragrance, can be purchased.
Conversation with the "KI.ser"
This year, an interactive painting of Emperor Franz Joseph I builds a bridge between history and the present. The "KI.ser" project, developed by the Austrian team around Roman Hansi (long-time member of the "Science Busters" and graphic designer), is intended to contribute to interactive knowledge transfer by enabling visitors to "talk" to the former monarch. The living work of art can be visited from Thursday, August 15, 2024 to Sunday, August 18, 2024 in front of the Trinkhalle from 09:00 hrs. to 17:00 hrs.
Vienna Boys' Choir accompanies solemn Imperial Mass
The highlight of the series of events will be the traditional Imperial Mass on Sunday, August 18, 2024 - the birthday of Emperor Franz Joseph I - at 11:00 hrs. in the parish church of Bad Ischl. Countless visitors do not miss it when members of the Habsburg family, members of former noble families and delegations of the traditional regiments from the former crown lands go to mass. As one of the most famous and oldest choirs in the world, the Vienna Boys' Choir will perform for the first time in the course of the mass. Afterwards, other visitors will be able to enjoy the unique choral singing when the Vienna Boys' Choir performs on the balcony of the former summer residence of the imperial couple at around 1:30 p.m. as part of the parade to the Imperial Villa.
