Lehár Festival in Bad Ischl -
Entertainment theatre at the highest level

The "Lehár Festival in Bad Ischl" is
the largest operetta festival in Austria, which takes place every summer. It presents a selection of operetta classics, including works by Franz Lehár, but also by other composers such as Paul Abraham and Carl Millöcker. In addition to the main performances, the festival also offers an extensive supporting programme with concerts and cabaret and attaches great importance to artistic quality and the promotion of young talent. In 2026, the organisers have once again conjured up an attractive, entertaining and varied programme on stage. Therefore, you can look forward to this event, for example...

Funny, artistically sophisticated operetta: "The Husband of the Gods"

"The Husband of the Gods" is a rare pearl of the operetta repertoire, a curiosity. With light-footed wit and Lehár's musical esprit, the composer and his librettists attack Greek mythology here. The premiere in 1904 was acclaimed. Relevance: The premiere took place on 20 January 1904 at the Carltheater in Vienna. According to Wiktionary, the title of the piece has coined the term of the same name in common parlance.

In search of a spectacular story for a new play, theatre director Mäandros calls on God the Father Jupiter in person. He is quickly convinced – he wants to experience the material for the theatrical sensation himself and secretly mingles with Mercury among mortals, only to be seduced by none other than his own wife Juno. Recordings show that the work places high demands on "singing actors", with a mixture of tenor elegance and humorous performance.

The Lehár Festival brings this ravishing gem to the Bad Ischl stage for the first time in a semi-scenic way. Look forward to a pleasurable emotional chaos, framed by Lehár's touching, imaginative compositions.
