Countess Mariza - the title alone promises musical delight, sentiment and hearty humour with a well-dosed pinch of Hungarian flair.
In order to escape her intrusive admirers, Countess Mariza flees to her country estate in Hungary and into an engagement to the fictitious Count Zsupán. When the fictitious marriage candidate suddenly appears very real and wants to happily kidnap the beloved to Varasdin, the cheerful-emotional chaos takes its course. An impoverished, mysterious estate manager, also in love with the countess, then finally upsets the quiet Hungarian country life.
This hilarious and at the same time deeply touching plot is joined by Kálmán's fabulous music, a veritable firework of fast-paced Csárdás, unforgettable evergreens and lively hits – in short, a great operetta classic in red-white-green.
