Location:  YOUZ - youth Center Bad Ischl, Auböckplatz 6, 4820 Bad Ischl

A musical historical experimental arrangement by Martin Stepanik - Part 1

The thesis that artistic development of (European) Jazz is not continuous, i.e. not in a constant growth to more and more, (for example in rhythmic complexity, melodic sophistication, harmonic density, improvisational freedom etc.), rather takes place in quantum leaps (in which new stages of development appear to be achieved out of nowhere), will be studied in a two year research project at JIM. The concert premiere on June 15th, 2023 (Youth Center, YOUZ Bad Ischl) and on 16th, 2023 („AgrarBildungsZentrum Salzkammergut“, hosted by Anna Lang „SeeTonWellen Festival Altmünster“) is therefore an interim report about the state of the art, presented and framed by the event European Capital of Culture Bad Ischl Salzkammergut 2024.

The performers are teachers, students and alumni of the JIM and regional musicians. The two renowned Salzburg musicians Christian Kronreif and Fabian Rucker studied in Linz and have now returned as professors for jazz saxophone to the Institute for Jazz and Improvised Music at the Bruckner Private University. Lukas Aichinger from Bad Ischl also studied at the JIM, is now based in Vienna and plays in various bands and projects (Znap, AHL6), founded his own label „Waschsalon Records“, and won the Ö1 Jazz Scholarship in 2019. Andreas Lachberger from Altmünster is a member of Upper Austrian Jazz Orchestra, lecturer at the annual Big Band Workshop, educator, musical director of „Upper Austrian Youth Jazz Orchestra“, and performs with his own „Andreas Lachberger Quartett“ mainly own compositions.
