Jazz is becoming increasingly popular. And so it is not surprising that the number of jazz events is constantly increasing. This is also thanks to a very special formation from the Traun metropolis: the Jazzfreunde Bad Ischl.
The ambitious organizers are an association that promotes jazz in the Salzkammergut by organizing concerts with national and international musicians and supporting young, innovative artists. The aim is to bring jazz in all its diversity closer to an interested audience and to preserve a "jazz oasis" in the Salzkammergut. The sentences of author Renate Welsh strike a chord—and do so in a completely non-violent way. They are simple, direct, and clear; through their immediacy, they manage to express the most complex matters and describe the most bewildering states of affairs.
Musician and composer Lisa Hofmaninger has allowed herself to be moved by Renate Welsh’s sentences, poems, and stories. In these compositions, the author’s voice and the musician’s sonic language engage in a lively dialogue. Just as she did in her musical settings of texts by writer Ilse Helbich, Hofmaninger creates a dense atmosphere that does not detract from the poetic language but, rather, affords it a special kind of space.
The suite “I Have Stopped Giving Up” uses a combination of speech and sound to tell of a steadfastness—a form of resistance—that arises from a profound sense of connection with the world. Two women from different generations, described as “gently fighting” (Ilse Aichinger), come together here—finding a compelling musical ensemble in the group carefully assembled by Hofmaninger.
