The Emperor’s New Gardens : Horticultural Show in Bad Ischl

Date: Apr. 24 - Oct. 4, 2015
This event has already taken place
Location:  Imperial Villa and Imperial park, Bad Ischl

The imperial city of Bad Ischl presents itself in 2015 as the blooming centre of the Salzkammergut

The motto of the horticultural show – “the emperor’s new gardens” – refers to the Imperial Villa and Kaiserpark, which served for more than 60 years as the summer residence of Emperor Franz Joseph and Empress Elisabeth. It was during that time that Bad Ischl’s reputation as a “royal and imperial” city was established. But it is also the prerogative of the horticultural show to create and display new gardens. In addition to reviving the horticultural legacy, contemporary designs are also presented prominently. The horticultural arts can be experienced in 8 stunning themed gardens. The newly designed garden spaces are tied into the life of the imperial couple and history and fit perfectly into the idyllic parks. Set up like pairs of gardens, the gardens over 500 m2 in size in the Sisipark and Kaiserpark will fascinate you with their array of ideas.

The flowering compositions over an area of more than 5,000 m2 accompany visitors through every part of the horticultural show and turn it into a colourful experience. In addition, 17 magical flower shows demonstrate the floristic variety in artistic arrangements, including everything from roses to orchids all the way to Alpine flowers.

Whether you visit Kaiserpark, Kurpark, Sisipark or Esplanade – each of the areas on the premises extending over more than 20 hectares will enthral you with its unique flair for a total of 164 days.
