Barrel stave race or in German "Fassdauben-Rennen": Fasten your seatbelts, because this winter will be really fun and fast-paced again. Because in the wintry Gosau Valley, which is covered in deep snow, the traditional barrel stave race will take place again. Fun for the whole family.
In teams of three, courageous women and men compete against each other in a cult competition. In the end, it is not the fastest team that wins, but the middle time. Whether guest or local - everyone can participate! Simply register on site. It's going to be fun! It starts at 13:00, immediately afterwards the award ceremony with great prizes takes place. So don't miss the barrel stave race on the Sumara-Kantn at the Hornspitzlift.
What are barrel staves?
Barrel staves are not a familiar term to everyone, so you should have been at least a spectator at a barrel stave race. Barrel staves are the curved boards that give the barrel its shape and support. Held only by leather straps, the daredevils plunge down the slope. Usually there are also some obstacles that have to be overcome.
The outfit is perfect with the traditional dirndl or traditional lederhosen as well as a mountain stick that is supposed to give some support. And of course, the hat should not be missing as a headdress.
