This year for the last time
For more than 60 years, the Salzkammergut has been the charming backdrop for a special music project: In Gosau, at the foot of the imposing Dachstein massif, musical people from Germany and many other European countries meet in the summer time for the Gosau Singing Weeks (Ecumenical Church Music Study Weeks).
The artistic director is the regional church music director Jchen Steuerwald from Speyer (Germany). During the day, individual hiking, sightseeing and relaxation fill the program. The evening is reserved for intensive rehearsals. The crowning glory of the fourteen-day stay will be three concerts in which the participants will present the musical program they have developed with instrumental support.
To ensure that the musical holiday can become a real family activity, the little ones are not left out either: a children's choir project has been integrated for many years.
Vera Steuerwald is in charge here. She is a singing teacher and youth music educator and has been active as a children's choir director for many years with great success. Courses in organ playing with district cantor Tobias Markutzik and choir conducting with regional church music director Jochen Steuerwald round off the offer.
The Gosau Singing Weeks (Ecumenical Church Music Study Weeks) will take place for the 65th time this year. This time, the singers will be together from Monday, July 14 to Monday, July 28, 2025. The concert program includes five Bach motets that are sure to make the vast majority of hearts beat faster: We start with the double choir
"I won't leave you, you bless me unless you bless me", which was previously attributed to Johann Christoph Bach. It also continues with double choirs with "Der Geist hilft unser Schwachheit auf". This is followed by the virtuoso four-part motet "Lobet den Herrn, alle Heiden", the eight-part mourning motet "Komm, Jesu, komm" and – as a crowning finale – the highly virtuoso double choir motet "Singet dem Herrn ein neues Lied".
The concerts will take place at 8 p.m. on Friday, July 25 in the parish church of St. Nikolaus Bad Ischl, on Saturday, July 26 in the parish church of St. Paul Bad Aussee and on Sunday, July 27 in the Evangelical Church in Gosau.
The two Sunday services on July 20 and 27 in Gosau will also be co-organized by the Singing Week Choir. A selection of the fruits of children's singing will also be performed in the service on Sunday, July 27. The assistance in the rehearsals and the direction and rehearsal of the church service music will be taken over by District Cantor Tobias Markutzik, Kusel. The organization is in the hands of Rebecca Sieron and treasurer Brigitte Feth. The organizer is the State Association for Church Music in the Evangelical Church of the Palatinate.
