New Year’s Eve sport finale
The Zwieselalm-Ascent has become a standing tradition in Gosau. This year marks the seventh anniversary of this touring ski competition with its 760 meter climb to the Zwieselalm in the Dachstein West Ski Region. Touring fans from near and far arrive on 30th December armed with headlamps in order to make the nighttime trek from the valley station of the Panorama-Jet cable car up to the Zwieselalm vista.
A “cult” event
This event has always held a special charm. Instead of awarding the highest honor to the fastest skier, the winner is determined by the average time based on all athletes in the race. For this reason, there is always strong speculation made on whether or not to take the ascent more slowly.
