High alpine hike for nature lovers

The Zwölferkogel (1979 m) is a rarely visited summit in the Dachstein area with many chamois and marmots living there. Our route leads over the valley station Gjaidalm (1733 m) over well-marked trails but also on unmarked footpaths to the highest point. We are passing many small and large sinkholes and climbing over some rockier sections. On the Zwölferkogel top, the view to the peaks of the Dachstein mountain range, Tennengebirge, Höllengebirge, Krippenstein and down to Lake Hallstatt is simply breath-taking.
The cross was suggested by Hans Schilcher in 1996, the former hut owner of the Gjaidalm. Since then, many mountain sermons have been held on the "Zwölfer". Numerous hikers and ski tourers are happy when they can register in the summit book. After a traditional summit rest, the way back is almost the same but with a little detour to Soachenklamm, which is only known to very few insiders. At the very hospitable Gjaidalm hut we enjoy the excellent food.
