This year, the Salzkammergut Hand.Werk.Haus is also all about the "European Capital of Culture Bad Ischl Salzkammergut 2024" and will present a very special exhibition in its premises in the centre of Bad Goisern on Lake Hallstatt from 25 May.

Exhibits from all over the world
In 2024, the exhibits by local craftsmen and craftsmen will be joined by contributions from the Technical School for Costume Masters in Hamburg, the Fashion School Ebensee and the Sculpture Master Class of the HTBLA Hallstatt, as well as object contributions from artists from Europe and overseas for the first time. Exciting contrasts and perspectives arise, for example, from the juxtaposition of outfits by the American textile artist Shae Bishop with traditional clothing habits of the Salzkammergut, or objects by the Japanese glass artist Shige Fujishiro with objects by Dutch and local bead embroiderers.
Until the end of October 2024
The exhibition at the Hand.Werk.Haus Salzkammergut in Bad Goisern runs for interested visitors from 25 May to 31 October 2024 during regular opening hours. In addition, the artistic exhibition is also a perfect excursion tip for visitors from all over the world on cloudy and rainy days.
More about the artist Shae Bishop
Shae Bishop grew up in Kentucky, where he worked with ceramics from a young age. While studying at the Kansas City Art Institute, he also learned to sew clothes and began to investigate the relationships between ceramics and textiles. He is part of the artisan community around the Penland School of Craft. Bishop has been a summer resident of the Archie Bray Foundation in Montana and a visiting artist at San Diego State University, the University of Wisconsin, and elsewhere. Stays, courses and research work also took him to Hungary, Turkey, Mexico, Cuba, Puerto Rico and Indonesia.
Bishop currently lives in North Carolina and Virginia. In addition to ceramics, he is passionate about herpetology, which often flows into his artistic practice. He is the co-founder of Treats Studios in Spruce Pine and lives with his partner Annie Evelyn, two dogs and a snake.
More about Shige Fujishiro
Shige Fujishiro, born in 1976 in Hiroshima Prefecture, is a Japanese photo and object art performer. He attended the Department of Fine Arts and Art Theory at Hiroshima University from 1996 and received his doctorate in 2002 under professors Kenji Ōi and Tatsuo Ebisawa. Today he lives and works in Hanover and Hiroshima.
Shige Fujishiro has become known for his special technique, with which he creates artistic objects from Japanese TOHO glass beads, safety pins and wire in a lengthy, meditative work. In the "Shopping Bags" project, for example, it is shopping bags from well-known brands that he manufactures using this technique in order to then capture them in multi-layered, performative photographs.
