To the hell and back

With 1,450 kilometers on 70 scenic routes, the Salzkammergut's huge range of mountain bike offerings will put a smile on every athlete's face. The flagship of the region is the Dachstein circuit. It leads in three stages around Upper Austria's highest mountain and can be ridden in three levels of difficulty.

Every beginning was difficult

A very special mountain bike event has taken place at the foot of the Dachstein every year since 1998: the Salzkammergut Trophy. 220 die-hards once lined up for the premiere. Two decades later, more than 5,000 participants from over 40 nations will be at the start in July 2024.

For the toughest among them, the competition day starts at five in the morning. The marathon starts at dawn on the market square in Bad Goisern. The extreme distance is 211 kilometers. An incredible 7,119 meters of altitude have to be overcome.

These challenges make the race the toughest mountain bike marathon in Europe. In addition to professionals who have their sights set on winning the day, more and more hobby bikers are taking on the challenging route. Your goal is to immortalize yourself on the finisher list. While the winners have long since been decided and are celebrating, for many of them the race day doesn't end until the evening hours...
