Weekly Farmer´s Market in Bad Ischl
Regional & International - A Market with History
For all those who are self-sufficient during their holiday in the Salzkammergut, a relaxed stroll through the Bad Ischl weekly market, in the historic city centre of the spa and imperial town, is particularly worthwhile. Traders and craftsmen in Bad Ischl, whose market rights have existed since 1466, have always offered their goods at the weekly market. Over the centuries, the market went through many ups and downs before it was finally agreed, in 1941, to hold the weekly market every Friday from them on, behind the “Trinkhalle” (drinking hall) up to the banks of the Traun (Salinen car park). The Friday has remained until today, what has changed is the location. And while the market once served to provide food and clothing, nowadays it has long since become a way of life.
Always fresh on the table!
Again and again, the weekly market in Bad Ischl surprises its visitors with its colourful range of products. This ranges from shopping baskets to the rich variety of flowers, fish, meat, bread and the lush vegetable stalls. "And around the church it is simply a wonderful picture", says Barbara Schenner, long-time weekly market stand operator from Bad Ischl. This is also the opinion of the numerous visitors. Because anyone who is anyone goes to the weekly market, in the most stylish way, of course, in traditional costume, and explores the variety of goods there. But it's not just shopping that takes place at the weekly market. People meet, chat a little, listen to the musicians or use the guest gardens in the immediate vicinity for a cosy glass of wine while watching the hustle and bustle.
Our tip: Why not combine a visit to Bad Ischl with an extensive visitor programme in the town on the Traun. The offer ranges from interesting museums and exhibitions to thermal spa experiences and culinary delights.
Note: Dear readers, dear visitors and guests, please note that the weekly market in Bad Ischl does not take place on public holidays. If you are undecided when there are public holidays in Austria, it is best to ask your hostess and the local tourist office. Your editorial team.
