Every year the Salzkammergut is transformed into a fascinating winter wonderland during the (pre-)Christmas season. This is due in no small part to the numerous Christmas markets, which appeal to all the senses with festive lighting, beautiful melodies, enticing aromas and an abundance of delicacies. They are spread throughout the region and have different focuses and programs: From Bad Ischl to Gosau, Bad Goisern, Hallstatt and Bad Aussee, you can get in the mood for the "most beautiful time of the year" in a rustic and original way. We look forward to welcoming you to this winter market experience.

Gosau "Bergweihnacht" - A Christmas Market

The Gosau "Bergweihnacht" is based on time-honoured traditions and customs, and local handicrafts which have long since been forgotten. The atmospheric surroundings of Gosau's Museum of Local Life with its full programme of lovingly planned events make this Christmas Market truly stand out from the rest.

Unique romantic mood -
Christmas like in the good old days

There is no more idyllic an occasion than when the Gosau Brass Bands begin to play their Christmas music. Local folk groups and farmers' wives serve traditional home-cooked food, typical of Gosau. In addition, there will be Christmas cakes and biscuits on sale, hearty soups and wholesome bread, and many more culinary treats for you to enjoy. The many exhibitors will be selling quality handcrafted goods, Christmas tre decorations, hand-tied Advent wreaths and much more. There will be an impressive selection of creative yet traditional hand-crafted goods for sale.

With many surprises for guests big and small from all over the world

Family is extremely important to us. One exciting, fun event is always a horse-drawn sledge ride to one of the Gosau farms. Once you get back to the museum, the children can play and enjoy handicrafts or warm up in the "Christmas Cinema". Various children's groups from Gosau's School of Music will add to the festive atmosphere by performing Christmas carols and songs. The "Family Lantern Walk" through the "Primeval Forest", with little surprises around every corner, will undoubtedly be one of the highlights of the event. A Christmas Market straight out of a picture book!

Because on the 2nd weekend of Advent, punctually on St. Nicholas Day, December 6, 2024, the "Dachstein West" ski region will ring in the new winter season. Perfect slopes for pre-Christmas winter sports fun. Finally, the Gosau Mountain Christmas invites you to take a romantic stroll through what is probably the most beautiful Christmas market in the Salzkammergut. And one or two punches are certainly included. Skiing and Christmas shopping - this is how the Gosau Valley becomes an absolute destination for all those who are looking for double winter enjoyment on the 2nd weekend of Advent. Firmly promised!

Make the switch
With the bus to the mountain Christmas in Gosau

Don't feel like looking for a parking space? Then do it the way more and more visitors do when travelling to the mountain Christmas in the picturesque Gosau Valley: simply change to the bus. More precisely, on the public bus. This will take you directly in front of the venue, the open-air museum in Gosau's Hintertal. Long walking times from any parking lots have become a thing of the past. The bus takes you from Bad Ischl and Bad Goisern to the pre-Christmas winter magic in one go. And if you are travelling from Hallstatt or Obertraun, you can easily hop from one bus to the other at the Gosaumühle bus junction. With so much stress-free, it can be one punch more.
