From horse to horsepower
Gosau at the foot of the Dachstein is not only a stronghold for skiers, cross-country skiers and snowshoe hikers, but also an ideal meeting point every year during carnival season for one of the fastest winter sports in the Salzkammergut: skijoring. This team sport is the traditional Norwegian method of being pulled through the winter landscape by a horse on skis. Instead of horses, skiers in the wintery Gosau Valley are harnessed to a completely different kind of horsepower: motocross bikes.
And what began as an experiment years ago has become a full-blown speed event, which is expected to attract hundreds of spectators again this year. And this winter sport is becoming increasingly popular. How else can it be explained that in recent years the starting places have been allocated to enthusiastic participants from all over Austria and Bavaria after just two days!
Who will win the race?
The spectacle starts in the morning at the Gosau sports centre, with the final taking place in the early afternoon. The new times can be found below under "Information at a Glance". A note for all those who would like to be part of this winter spectacle: The organisers request that spectators only use the designated parking areas.
